ITINERARY
🌱 Day 1: Navigation on the Madre de Dios River + Ecological Hike + Night Boat Trip
Your adventure begins in Puerto Maldonado, where you’ll be greeted by our team and transferred to the dock to board a motorized boat. The trip along the Madre de Dios River is an experience in itself: monkeys on the banks, birds soaring overhead, and jungle vegetation hugging the riverbanks.
Upon arrival at the ecolodge, you’ll receive a warm welcome and a brief introduction to the environment, followed by a delicious Amazonian lunch. After settling into your wooden cabin with a palm thatch, we’ll begin a guided hike along the lodge’s nature trails.
During the tour, you’ll be amazed by ancient trees like the shihuahuaco and the strangler fig, observe giant insects, multicolored butterflies, and perhaps even spot the traces of mammals like armadillos or sloths. Nature manifests itself in every leaf, every sound, and every shadow of this primary forest.
At dusk, the jungle changes its face. We’ll embark on the iconic “River of Night,” a silent boat excursion under the stars. Lanterns reveal bright eyes on the shore: white caimans, nightjars, owls, night herons, and even capybaras. The silence, interrupted only by natural sounds, creates a magical atmosphere.
We conclude the day with a delicious dinner in the lodge’s dining room. Afterward, you can rest or join an interpretive talk about nocturnal jungle life.
🦜 Day 2: Sailing on Lake Sandoval + Canopy Walkway + Hike through the Aguajales
The new day in the jungle begins with the songs of macaws, monkeys, and tropical birds. After breakfast, we depart for Lake Sandoval, within the Tambopata National Reserve.
The hike to access the lake is a fascinating journey through the tropical rainforest. Howler monkeys, flying squirrels, toucans, and giant butterflies accompany the tour. Once at the lake, we board a traditional canoe to explore this body of water surrounded by palm trees and flooded trees.
Here you can spot emblematic species such as the endangered giant river otter, black caimans, kingfishers, herons, and, with luck, anacondas. All while you glide serenely among the green reflections of the landscape.
After lunch, we ascend to the green heaven of the jungle: the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway. Across suspension bridges suspended almost 30 meters high, we’ll walk among the treetops, observing the wildlife spectacle from above. Squirrel monkeys, woodpeckers, toucans, and even bats are common here.
At the end, an even more special experience awaits you: the Anaconda Walk, an elevated trail that crosses swamps and marshes teeming with biodiversity. It’s a perfect place to learn about the ecology of tropical wetlands.
We close this second day with a nature presentation at the lodge’s Eco Center and an Amazonian dinner to recharge our batteries.
🦋 Day 3: Return to Puerto Maldonado + Visit to the Butterfly House
After waking up in the middle of the jungle and enjoying a nutritious breakfast, we’ll head back along the Madre de Dios River to Puerto Maldonado.
Before concluding your experience, we’ll visit the Butterfly House, one of the most important butterfly farms in the country, where you can observe Amazonian butterflies in all their stages of development. You’ll learn about their role in ecosystems and marvel at their diversity of shapes and colors: blue morphos, striped heliconias, tropical monarchs, and many more.
