Ideal for travelers who want to escape conventional tourism and connect with the essence of the Peruvian highlands.

ITINERARY

🗺️  Itinerary

Day 1: Uros and Amantaní Lodging Experience

The adventure begins with a unique experience on the Uros floating islands, built entirely of totora reeds, an aquatic plant that grows in the lake. Here, the inhabitants welcome us and share details about their history, daily life, fishing techniques, and how they keep their islands afloat. You’ll be able to observe their homes, tools, and traditional costumes, and purchase handicrafts directly from the islanders.

After this fascinating visit, we’ll sail to Amantaní Island, one of the largest and least touristy islands on the lake. Upon arrival, a local family will welcome us with open arms and take us to their home, where we’ll share a delicious meal made with native products such as quinoa, Andean potatoes, cheese, and muña.

In the afternoon, we will take a leisurely hike to the upper reaches of the island, where the pre-Incan ceremonial temples of Pachamama and Pachatata are located. From this point, you will have one of the most impressive panoramic views of Lake Titicaca, ideal for capturing unforgettable sunset photographs.

The experience continues with a simple but nutritious dinner, and for those who wish, the host family can invite you to an evening of traditional music and dance in the community hall (optional and subject to availability).

Day 2: Living Culture on Taquile Island and Return to Puno

After a traditional breakfast, we bid farewell to the host family and embark for Taquile Island, famous for its weaving and community organization.

Upon arrival, we will walk along cobblestone paths surrounded by agricultural terraces, wildflowers, and lake views. In the main square, the island’s men will demonstrate their weaving techniques, an ancestral legacy where men have woven since childhood and conveyed social messages through their hats, or chullos.

We’ll also have time to visit the small artisan markets, chat with the locals, and enjoy a traditional lunch overlooking the lake, including fresh trout, quinoa soup, or a vegetarian menu.

Before we say goodbye, we’ll descend the famous stairs leading to the pier, from where we’ll begin our return to Puno with our hearts full of unforgettable memories and lessons learned.

RECOMMENDATIONS

🌟 Recommendations

🌤 Acclimatization before the tour
Puno is located at over 3,800 meters above sea level, so it is recommended to rest at least one day before the tour to avoid altitude sickness. Drink coca tea and avoid heavy meals the day before.

🎒 Bring a light backpack
You only need the essentials: comfortable, warm clothing, sunscreen, sunglasses, water, personal hygiene items, a sun hat, and a small flashlight (the island doesn’t have much lighting at night).

🧥 Dress warmly for the night
Temperatures in Amantaní can drop considerably. Although the host family provides blankets, it is advisable to bring a thermal jacket or an Andean poncho.

🎁 Bring a small gift for your host family
If you want to show your appreciation, you can bring something simple like rice, sugar, candles, or school supplies. These are highly valued by the local communities.

📷 Camera Ready
The sunrise and sunset views at Amantaní are some of the most spectacular on Lake Titicaca. Make sure you have enough battery and memory to capture unique moments.

💧 Hydration and Safety
Drink water regularly throughout the day and avoid strenuous physical exertion if you are still getting used to the altitude.
