🧭 Description

What is the Abode of the Gods?

The Abode of the Gods is a monumental sculptural complex carved directly into rock. The figures reach between 10 and 17 meters in height and represent deities and symbols of the Andean worldview, such as:

  • Pachamama (Mother Earth)
  • Apu Wiracocha (creator god)
  • The puma
  • Faces of Incas and condors

It was created by Cusco-based sculptor Michael de Titán Monteagudo Mejía, with community support through the ancient practice of ayni (reciprocal collective work).

Distance: 13 km from Cusco’s Plaza de Armas.

Sector: Huayna Corcor, Sencca locality, Poroy district.

🌄 Start of the ATV tour on Andean roads

Once ready, we begin the ATV journey along rural routes, paved roads, and scenic trails that pass through agricultural fields, small communities, and green hills. The landscape is dominated by terraced crops, eucalyptus trees, and mountains that stretch as far as the eye can see.
During the hike, you’ll experience the pure Andean air and a pleasant blend of excitement, freedom, and connection with nature. Along the way, you’ll also spot local animals such as sheep, cows, and occasionally Andean birds.

At various points along the way, we’ll take brief breaks to rest and take photographs of the mountainous surroundings and their spectacular views. From these vantage points, you can see snow-capped peaks in the distance, such as Mount Ausangate or Mount Salkantay on clear days.

Arrival at the Abode of the Gods – Apukunaq Tianan

After approximately 45 minutes of ATV riding, we arrived at a truly special place: the Abode of the Gods, known in Quechua as Apukunaq Tianan, which means “where the Apus dwell.” This site is an impressive modern sculpture complex created on gigantic Andean rocks, located high in the hills, with a privileged view of the valley.

This complex was designed by artist Michael de Titán and is inspired by the Andean worldview. The hand-carved sculptures depict sacred figures such as:

  • Pachamama, goddess of the earth.
  • The god Wiracocha, creator of all that exists.
  • The Andean condor, messenger of the heavens.
  • The puma, symbol of strength and wisdom.
  • The wise monkey, representation of spiritual balance.

Each of these sculptures is several meters tall and is steeped in ancestral meaning. The surrounding natural environment enhances the site’s energy, making it an ideal space for contemplation and cultural learning.

🎒 Free time to explore and connect with the site’s energy

Here you will have free time to explore the Abode of the Gods at your own pace, take photographs next to the sculptures, listen to the guide’s explanations, and immerse yourself in the symbolism within each figure.
Many visitors find this space to have a special energy. It is not only a site of art and culture, but also a place to reflect on the relationship between humankind, nature, and the divine.

The guide will share historical and spiritual details with you, as well as stories linked to the Apus, the protective spirits of the mountains in Quechua tradition.

🔁 Return on ATVs along the same route

After enjoying this mystical enclave, we begin the return journey along the same route on ATVs. The return journey offers a new perspective of the landscape and a final opportunity to enjoy riding through the Andean hills and countryside. The group advances in an orderly fashion, accompanied at all times by the guide, who ensures that the experience is safe and enjoyable for everyone.
