📍 Itinerary

🗓 Day 1: Train Cemetery – Colchani – Uyuni Salt Flats – Incahuasi Island – Sunset – Coquesa

We’ll start with pickup from your accommodation in Uyuni and head to the Train Cemetery, a nostalgic and photogenic space that preserves Bolivia’s railway history. We’ll then visit Colchani, a small village where local artisans craft salt products.

The journey continues within the majestic Uyuni Salt Flats, where we’ll explore the Ojos de Sal (Salt Eyes), the mounds, the Dakar Monument, the Banderas Forest, and the first Salt Hotel. After lunch, we’ll visit the iconic Incahuasi Island, a rocky oasis with giant cacti and panoramic views of the white desert.

As evening falls, we’ll enjoy a magical sunset over the Uyuni Salt Flats before heading to the village of Coquesa, located at the foot of the imposing Tunupa Volcano, where we’ll spend the night.

🗓 Day 2: Coquesa – Pre-Incan Mummies – Tunupa Viewpoint – Return to Uyuni

We’ll depart very early for the Mummy Caves, a pre-Incan archaeological site where a local guide will explain the history of these enigmatic Andean figures. We’ll then ascend to the Tunupa Volcano viewpoint, from where you can observe the immensity of the Uyuni Salt Flats in all its magnitude.

After lunch at the lodge, we’ll return to Uyuni, making strategic stops to take spectacular perspective photographs in the middle of the salt flats.

Recommendations

Tour Recommendations

Wear warm, layered clothing: Mornings and evenings in the mountains can be very cold, even below freezing. It is recommended to wear several layers, including a thermal jacket, fleece, hat, gloves, and a scarf to easily adapt to temperature changes.

Protect your eyes and skin: The sun’s reflection on the salt flat’s surface is intense. Wear UV-filtering sunglasses, sunscreen, and a cap or hat to avoid sunburn and glare.

Hydration and Snacks: Bring drinking water, fruit, nuts, or energy bars to maintain energy during long hikes. It is also recommended to bring toilet paper for stops at rural or community restrooms.

Camera and Spare Batteries: The Salar de Uyuni offers unique landscapes and spectacular photography opportunities. Be sure to bring spare batteries or a power bank, as some accommodations do not have constant electricity.

Personal Documents: Have your passport or ID on hand, as it is required for check-in at accommodations and at some checkpoints along the way.

Cash (Bolivians): Some services do not accept cards, such as entrance fees to Incahuasi Island, restrooms, souvenirs, or additional expenses during the tour.

Small Backpack: Pack only what you need for one night, including a change of clothes, personal hygiene items, and essential accessories. This makes transportation easier and keeps your belongings organized during the tour.

Care for the Environment: Do not leave trash, extract salt, or alter the landscape. The Salar and its surroundings are fragile ecosystems that require respect and conservation.
